Hanoi

We dropped our friend's sister in Vinh and met some nuns before changing car and driving off for Hanoi. It had turned out that there were no flights Vinh-Hanoi before almost one week!! ... and we really wanted to get back to civilization by that time.
Our 9h drive to Hanoi was very dark and rainy, actually quite cosy if it hadn't been for the Vietnamese's driving skills; did they all receive their drivers license in a Kinder surprise egg or what??
If you think that 9 hours in a car night time means sleeping, you just haven't been to Vietnam. See there are no high ways and most roads have only 2 lanes so passing other cars/trucks is all a mission and tradition is to honk and flash ALL the other cars. I quietly thought to myself that if they stopped spending all this time honking and flashing cars they might just have time to drive decently...

Luckily almost all roads are limited to maximum 80 km/h, often going down to 40 km/h. But at night, having cows walking in the middle of the road, people crossing, random branches laying around... well I guess you've got the picture.

We finally arrived in Hanoi at 2 am, discovering that the driver had no idea how to get to our hotel, and after driving around in circles for more than 30 min we decided to take the first hotel we could find.

  1. Hej!
