I still don't know in which town the funeral was held, all I know is that everyone kept telling us that "on the other side of these mountains is Cambodia".
The region we were in is Vietnam's poorest area. There are few schools, often located very far from the villages, the children spend hours everyday walking to school, and in their spare time they take care of the family's animals.
Our friend's uncle was brought up in this area and became a catholic priest, he dedicated his life to try and help out the people of his native area, and one of his ongoing projects was to build a new church. The ceremony was held in the not yet finished church, and he was buried just outside it.
This was the first time I experienced a catholic ceremony. Verdict; there's a lot of standing up and sitting down, Catholics must be good athletes!
Vietnam is full of colors and neon lights, funerals are no exceptions.
