It's dragon fruit season here in Vietnam, have you ever tasted it?
It's a beautiful fushia pink fruit, with green leaves growing out from the fruit, and once you cut i open it looks like a giant white kiwi.
In taste, it's a less tasty and less sour version of a kiwi.
On our way to Mui Ne yesterday, we passed through the Dragon fruit region, somewhere close to Phan Thiet.

They had covered all the fruits with newspapers to protect them from the sun

The dragon fruit comes off a cactus, that in the fields looks like a small tree, however when we got a closer look we realized they force the cactus into looking like a tree. Basically they cut of pieces (about 1m long) from an already grown cactus, and stick at least 4 of these into the ground around a cement pole stuck in the ground. The stick will start growing branches, which are forced onto the cement pole, and in the end the pole will get covered by the cactus and having branches sticking out making it look like a small tree.
